Benzodiazepines and Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment
What are benzos? Are you addicted to prescribed drugs?

Benzodiazepines may be prescribed to alleviate symptoms of anxiety or pain – they can be a very
important intervention in relieving anxiety and allowing individuals to work through the reasons for
your increased anxiety, for example, talking therapies for anxiety, or pain management.

This type of drug can become relied upon and an addiction can develop, over time, therefore
prescriptions are often highly monitored, and doctors will typically monitor benzodiazepine usage
closely.

However some people become addicted through excessive use and ‘doctor shopping’ whereby they
register with various clinicians presenting with the same symptoms and then increase your doses
while insufficiently supervised.
